Gynäkologie

One of our main areas is operative gynecology. We rely on modern, innovative and evidence-based methods such as laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) and vaginal surgery. Fast-track concepts ensure optimal care surrounding the operation and accelerate recovery after surgery. We closely cooperate with our neighboring disciplines such as anesthesia, visceral surgery, plastic surgery and urology.

In the area of oncological disease of the female genital tract and the breast, we work to provide in-depth evaluation and information. Surgeries are minimally invasive, e.g., laparoscopic or vaginal, and outpatient when possible. Therapies are prepared and reviewed by the interdisciplinary tumor board.

Performing more than 200 breast surgeries per year, the Division of Gynaecology at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has great expertise in treating breast diseases such as breast cancer. In our division, evaluation, surgery, follow-up treatment and aftercare occur under one roof in collaboration with other divisions. So many patients are integrated into ongoing studies that the division was named Center of the Year by the ABCSG (Austrian Breast and Colorectal Study Group) in 2009.

Another focus is on conservative gynecological oncology. Most chemotherapy before or after surgery can be administered on an outpatient basis. Many patients are enrolled in the latest trial protocols. In 2009 the Austrian Gynecologic Oncology Group (Österreichische Arbeitsgemeinschaft Gynäkologische Onkologie/AGO) named us Center of the Year.

In the area of benign disease, the emphasis is on urinary and fecal incontinence. Here too we work hard to provide follow-up care and aftercare to our patients and ensure sustainable treatment outcomes. Internationally recognized trials have originated in Graz.

The uniqueness and the added value of our division are the result of the symbiosis between patient care, research and education. The division is jointly operated by the Medical University of Graz and the Styrian Hospital Association (KAGes). This interdisciplinary cooperation between both providers at the University Hospital Graz site is also reflected on our website. More information on patient care can be found at the University Hospital Graz website.
